Barrow County Sheriff Investigating after Fight at High School Sends Student to Hospital

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fight between two Winder-Barrow High School students which sent one student to the hospital.

According to the media release by Sheriff Jud Smith, the fight between the two female students happened Thursday, September 5th shortly before 11:15 am when their class was released for lunch.

One student sustained a head injury and was taken to the hospital.

Sheriff Smith says he wants to correct information that has previously been distributed on various outlets.

He has released a detailed timeline regarding the fight, which happened at 11:12, and the resource officer was on the scene in minutes.

The injured student was treated at about 11:15 by medical personnel at the school.

Her mother was contacted at 11:35 am and arrived at the school at 11:44. The student was taken to the hospital by her mother just before noon.

The mother later texted the school that her daughter was being taken to another hospital around 2:40 that afternoon.

The sheriff says there is no evidence the incident involved bullying.
