Members of the Athens community are invited to view a special presentation of the FX networks’ “Peabody Presents: Stories of the Year.” Peabody Awards Executive Director Jeffrey Jones says the hour-long special provides insight as to how process of selecting winners works.
“In the past we’ve aired television programs that show the Peabody Awards ceremony but what we thought is actually more intriguing for the viewer is to just select a handful of the programs across our genres of journalism, and entertainment programming and documentary, and really do a deeper dive as to what these shows are,” according to Jones. “What made then Peabody-worthy or a winner, and hear from the producers are what they do in going about their craft.”
Retired news anchor and current member of the Peabody Board of Jurors, Monica Kaufman Pearson, will head a question and answer session after the hour-long feature presentation.
“Make it publicly available to not just watch but also to talk about and then have one of our board of jurors, Monica, to talk about some of the jury deliberations and what we found powerful and moving in these stories and a little bit of “Inside Baseball” if you will, as to how the Peabody process works and why we found these programs worthy of winning a Peabody.”
The special is hosted by Peabody winner Hasan Minhaj. The discussion is free and open to the public. It takes place this evening at 7:30 this evening at Cine.
