Oconee County graduation rate highest in district history, above state average

Oconee County schools' graduation rate is above the national average at 97.7%, the highest in the district's history. In comparison, the state graduation rate is 82% in 2018-2019, the highest share on record, and the nation's is 85% in 2016-2017, the most recent data available.

“The Class of 2019 has demonstrated unprecedented levels of excellence in Oconee County Schools,” said Oconee County Superintendent Jason L. Branch. “Our graduates were incredibly blessed to learn from world-class educators in their educational journeys and to be supported by engaged and caring parents as well.”

The 2019 OCS graduation rate is up from 94.4% in 2018.

Georgia's graduation rate has historically lagged both national and regional graduation rates, with a 70% rate in 2012.

Among Georgia's 181 school districts, the state Department of Education says 71 saw graduation rates of 90% or more, while 24 districts saw graduation rates of 95% or more.

Federal law requires the state to calculate a four-year graduation rate.

State Superintendent Richard Woods says he salutes teachers and students "who are doing the on-the-ground work that leads to increases in our graduation rate and other indicators."
