Jackson EMC Returns $12 Million in Margin Refunds

Jackson Alliance

Jackson EMC is returning millions of dollars in margin refunds to members this month. According to a release from the company, some 239,000 Jackson EMC members will receive their share of $12 million in December.

According to Board Chairman Otis P. Jones, as members of a non-for-profit cooperative, Jackson EMC members are eligible to receive a portion of the funds left over at the end of the year after all cooperative expenses are paid. That money is called margin refunds.

Margins are refunded for a combination of years so both longtime and newer members, as well as former members, benefit. This year, funds will go to those who received electric service from Jackson EMC in 1991, 1992 and/or 2018.

After this December’s refund, Jackson EMC will have refunded $147 million in margin refunds to our member-owners since our cooperative was founded in 1938.
