ACCPD Seeking Information in Rape Investigation

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department would like to speak with a young couple who detectives believe were in the area of a rape Saturday morning.

The incident happened in the area of Dearing Street and Church Street and police say the couple may have seen the suspect.

According to ACCPD’s initial investigation, a 22-year old female reported that she was raped by a black male with an athletic build.

The suspect is about 5’ 10” with a dark complexion and short hair. The suspect was wearing dark pants and a grey hoody. The incident occurred at approximately 3:00am. The victim did not know the suspect

ACCPD encourages individuals to consider these safety tips:

* Seek a safe ride home.

* If walking home, stay with a group and stay in well-lit areas.

* Always be aware of your surroundings and call 9-1-1 if you see someone or something suspicious
