Gov. Kemp Delivers 2020 State of the State Address

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp delivering his State of the State address earlier today. Kemp discussed funding public education and said raising teacher pay remains a priority.

“Let’s fully fund public school education for the third year in a row…let’s give our educators another well-deserved pay raise!”

The Governor’s budget includes a $2,000 pay raise for all public school educators.

The governor also discussed his plans for Medicaid waiver to increase medical coverage in the state.

“Empowered by the Patients First Act, we crafted Georgia-centric healthcare solutions to lower healthcare costs, reduce insurance premiums, enhance access to top-notch care, and ultimately, improve health outcomes for Georgia families.”

The governor also announced a partnership with the University of Georgia will create a faculty position to research treatments for Parkinson’s disease. Isakson has the disease, which was a factor in his retirement.  helped prompt his retirement.

“Right now, over 20,000 Georgians are living with Parkinson’s disease,” according to Kemp.

“Thanks to the leadership of President Jere Morehead, we are creating a Johnny Isakson Professorship for Parkinson’s Research at the University of Georgia. Once recruited, this PhD researcher will develop better treatments for patients like Johnny, better medicine, and a better quality of life.”

Kemp also recognized former governor Nathan Deal and First Lady Sandra Deal during his speech.

Other topics addressed included fighting street gangs, reforming the state adoption law, and combatting human trafficking.
