Cine Hosting Free Screening of Suppressed: The Fight to Vote Documentary

Brave New Films

Area residents are invited to a free screening of Suppressed: The Fight to Vote. The documentary focuses on the allegations of voter suppression in Georgia during the 2018 elections. Director Robert Greenwald is also president of Brave New Films, the nonprofit which produced the documentary.

“What the film does, it uses, in the best and most respectful sense of the word, Georgia as a test case," Greenwald said. “Showing people look, this is what happened here and then connecting it to the organized effort all around the country, to suppress the vote.”

Former District 117 Representative Deborah Gonzalez will moderate a discussion after the showing. Speakers will include representatives from the ACLU, Coalition for Good Governance, Economic Justice Coalition and the ACC Board of Elections.

“These films are designed to live the slogan, which is ‘Democracy is not a spectator sport,’ according to Greenwald.

Greenwald’s goal is to show the film 2,020 times by the 2020 election. 800 screenings have already been scheduled since the film’s premiere in late September.

“If you’re not able to come, go to BraveNewFilms.org. You can see the film there, you can then sign up for a screening, you can pass it along if you go to Facebook, there are clips available there. They’re available on Twitter, they’re available on Instagram.”

The event takes place at Cine Tuesday evening from 6 to 8:30 pm.
