Athens Immigrant Rights Coalition Holding 4th Annual Town Hall

The Athens Immigrant Rights Coalition is holding its 4th Annual Town Hall this weekend. Beto Mendoza is a coordinator with the agency and one of the event organizers. He says the gathering is for those who work for immigrants’ rights and those who want information about activities and programs available in Athens.

“We will have panel discussions about all the issues affecting the migrant community in Athens and in the nation, whether it is education, health, work, and access to public service,” according to Mendoza.

Mendoza says the meeting is a safe space for the immigrant community as well as a place for those wanting more information. Community leaders and guests will address how national immigration issues affect Athens.

“Most of the topics are related to the migrants’ families. We’re going to have presentations, panel information, workshops, and also we will have our keynote speaker coming from New Jersey, Brenda Gonzalez who is an organizer with Movimiento Cosecha.”

The Town Hall is Saturday, February 29th from 12 to 4 pm at the Library on Baxter Street.

Attendees can enjoy music and a complimentary lunch at the event. The Town Hall is free and open to the public. Childcare will be provided. Registration is not required.
