Clarke County Schools Closed Next Week

Clarke County Schools are among those joining a growing list of districts around the state that are closing, at least temporarily, due the coronavirus outbreak. According to a notice the district sent out Thursday evening, CCSD will be closed for the week of March 16th-20th. School officials will reevaluate Thursday, March 19th to determine if continued closing is needed.

The move came after an address Thursday by Governor Brian Kemp, who gave local school systems the ability to close schools for up to two weeks to limit the spread of COVID-19.

The release states the district has been monitoring coronavirus with guidance from the CDC, Georgia Department of Public Health, Clarke County Health Department, and the Georgia Department of Education.

“As the situation has continued to change rapidly, our top priority remains the health and well-being of our school community.”

Central Office staff, principals, Assistant Principals, Instruction Coaches and Department Chairs (High School only) are to report to work Monday the 16th. If they traveled to a Level 3 country, then they must stay home and notify their supervisor.

Parents will be receiving information about digital and distance learning, as well as school nutrition services.

Information about COVID-19 will continue to be posted at https://www.clarke.k12.ga.us/.
