Gov. Kemp: Coronavirus Cases Up/Supplies Ordered

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Governor Brian Kemp was joined by state medical and emergency personnel Tuesday afternoon for a media briefing to provide an update in the state’s efforts to battle the coronavirus outbreak. During that briefing, which was held via teleconference and telephone, the governor revealed the latest numbers of COVID-19.

“We’ve got, as you know, 146 positive cases in our state, that’s now in 27 counties, that’s up from 121 cases yesterday.”

Kemp says dozens of those cruise ship passengers who were taken to Dobbins Air Reserve Base are leaving today.

“There’s 124 people that are scheduled to leave that facility today and go back to Illinois, Indiana and Delaware,” according to Kelp. “So that leaves around 160 at Dobbins and again, there are no Georgian there.”

The state has also ordered a substantial amount of equipment.

“We’ve ordered over 100,000 masks, 10 pallets of medical face shields, 10,000 gloves, 25,000 gowns, 26,000 shoe covers and 1,000 goggles.”

Officials have also requested 15,000 specimen collection kits, 5,000 personal protective equipment kits ad 36 public health services officers from FEMA.

Kemp says private companies are charging as much as $300 for virus testing. He urged Georgians to avoid those costs by seeking out their doctors for state testing information.

In addition, Attorney General Chris Carr’s office is looking into reports of an uptick in price gouging for food and water.
