Athens Transit Temporarily Fare-Free, Reduced Services

Athens-Clarke Transit

Beginning Wednesday, March 18, Athens Transit will make several changes. According to the ACC Government, in an effort to reduce transmission of the coronavirus, transit services will be reduced to weekend service levels with nine routes operating between 7:30 am until 9:45 pm. The new schedule is in effect seven days a week until April 7, 2020. Lift Demand Response services will operate on a medically-essential need only basis.

All transit services will be offered free of charge. A one round trip rule will be in effect to prevent passengers from continuous riding.  Riders will only be able to enter and exit buses via the rear door. In addition, a barrier will be placed behind drivers to promote social distance between drivers and passengers.

No riders under age 18 will be allowed unless traveling with a parent or guardian.

The Multimodal Transportation Center's building and Transit's Maintenance and Operations Facility will be closed to the public.
