Georgia's death toll from COVID-19 has jumped to 10 statewide as state officials also report a big jump in confirmed infections. The Georgia Department of Public Health said Thursday the total number of confirmed cases statewide now stands at 287 _ up from 197 cases reported the previous day.

Meanwhile, more than 50 state lawmakers remain in self-quarantine and churches are told to halt worship services. For most people, the virus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness.
