Athens Farmers Market Moves Business Online

Athens Farmers Market

While COVID-19 has forced the shutdown of public gatherings, the Athens Farmers Market has found a way to open for business. Sarah Thurmann is manager of the market.

"We came together with Collective Harvest to offer an online market," Thurmann said. "Collective Harvest deserves a tremendous amount of credit for working with a system that was not designed to do what we're asking it to do. The website is collectiveharvestathens.com and on the homepage you'll see a link to the online Farm Stand."

Pickups are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. They also deliver. Thurmann says there is an abundance of produce available.

"Our farmers grow produce and raise animals that are not affected by COVID-19. The produce is growing in full abundance and we have great weather and we have a lot of food."

An added benefit? The nutritional value provided by the market’s offerings.

"Right now, having access to life-giving food that strengthens your immune system and allows your body to be more resilient and strong in the face of uncertainty is one of the greatest assets we can offer a community."

The online portal is open weekly Wednesday at noon through Friday at noon. Food can be delivered or picked up curbside at 940 West Broad Street, Suite B. Orders are placed the week before. Visitors can also donate to help offset losses compiled during this time.
