COVID-19 in Georgia, More Than 200 Dead

The Georgia Department of Public Health says the state now has 6,742 confirmed cases of COVID-19. 1,296 of those infected are hospitalized and there have been 219 deaths across the state. Fulton County continues to lead the state in number of cases with 970 and 28 deaths.  That’s followed by Dougherty County which has 688 cases and 31 deaths-the most in the state. DeKalb has 549 cases and 9 deaths, Cobb has 474 cases, 24 deaths and Gwinnett County has 410 cases with 7 deaths.  

Locally, Clarke County has 62 cases and eight deaths. Barrow County has 25 people infected and two deaths. Oconee County has 24 cases and no deaths. Jackson County has 15 cases and no deaths. Madison County has seven cases and one death. Oglethorpe County has one case which resulted in a death. According to the GDP's COVID-19 Daily Status Report, the vast majority of local cases, and for most of those around the state, those who died had underlying medical conditions.
