Tuesday Governor Brian P. Kemp issued an Executive Order designating healthcare institution and medical facility employees, staff, and contractors as "auxiliary emergency management workers." During the Public Health State of Emergency, the order limits the civil liability of those workers while performing emergency services and providing patient care, if that care results in the death or injury of the patient.
Facilities include, but are not limited to: hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, nursing homes, assisted living communities, personal care homes, health testing facilities, infirmaries, diagnostic and treatment centers, and public health centers.
At a COVID-19 briefing yesterday at the State Capitol, Governor Kemp announced the state's plans to increase staffing levels for healthcare facilities in various parts of Georgia to combat the COVID-19 public health emergency.
"The state has partnered with Jackson Healthcare, which has a portfolio of staffing, search, and technology companies to assist health systems, hospitals, and facilities with workforce needs," Kemp said. "We are working through Jackson Healthcare’s subsidiary Healthcare Workforce Logistics to bring roughly 570 additional healthcare professionals to key systems across the state."
There are now more than 14-thousand cases of COVID-19 in Georgia and deaths have topped 500.
