Gov. Kemp on Ramping up COVID-19 Testing

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Monday Gov. Brian Kemp provided an update on COVID-19 in the state. Kemp said testing efforts are lagging behind in the state and officials need to ramp up testing in the coming days and weeks.

"Despite our partnerships and undeniable progress, our testing numbers in Georgia continue to lag," he said. "We need to be firing on all cylinders to prepare for the days and weeks ahead."

Kemp said about 58,000 tests have been performed so far, but he wants testing available. He says testing capacity is increasing.

"At Dr. Toomey’s direction, we are expanding testing criteria to include symptomatic critical infrastructure workers and asymptomatic individuals who have had direct contact with positive COVID-19 patients, including family members.”

Testing for individuals considered to have the most need is still a main concern.

Kemp says those wishing to be tested still need to contact their local health department to arrange for a test.
