Athens' Nonprofits Seeking Matching Funds for COVID-19 Community Response Fund

Athens Area Community Foundation

The COVID-19 Community Response Fund hosted by the Athens Area Community Foundation in partnership with United Way of Northeast Georgia is asking for the community to match a recent gift.

The Athens Area Community Foundation is asking the community to match a recent gift. The organization’s COVID-19 Community Response Fund has received $50,000 from The Wilbur and Hilda Glenn Family Foundation. The AACF and fund partner the United Way of Northeast Georgia are asking community members to give to that fund over the next few days. Foundation president and CEO Sarah McKinney says the fund will support local organizations providing essential services associated with the pandemic in our community.

“We are providing one centralized way to mobilize and marshal resources,” according to McKinney. “To be directed by a very expert group of advisory members looking at sophisticated data points, listening to the community, and prioritizing need that’s not necessarily rooted in today’s need but is looking at need that we don’t even know yet that’s going to come as a result of this pandemic.”

The fund has raised $174,000 raised since its launch.

The Athens Area Community Foundation and the United Way of Northeast Georgia’s leadership have both agreed to not fee or take any dollars off the top of this fund. One dollar in will be one dollar out to our community.”

The funding will not be restricted to current United Way of Northeast Georgia partners.
