Athens Law Firm Donates to Food Bank of Northeast Georgia

The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia receiving a sizeable donation recently. Attorneys and staff at Blasingame, Burch, Garrard & Ashley recently donated $5,155 to the Food Bank, which distributes more than 11 million pounds of food to 14-county area each year.

Henry Garrard is Managing Shareholder with the firm.

“We feel strongly about giving back to the community, we’ve been blessed and we know that people need help and the Food Bank is a good organization” Garrard said. “What I’m proud of is that it’s not just that the lawyers gave some money, but our employees stepped up and were participants in creating that money as well as the lawyers in the law firm.”

The Food bank of Northeast Georgia works with more than 225 partner organizations each year. Programs include, a mobile pantry, childhood hunger, senior hunger, family hunger and more.

Chuck Toney is the executive director of the food bank, which was founded in 1992.

“Our greatest need, frankly is monetary donations,” according to Toney “We can stretch a dollar so much farther than we can stretch a can of beans. That monetary donation will go very, very far to feed our neighbors in need.”

He says due to being part of a much larger system, the facility can distribute four meals for every one dollar donated.

“We can access networks through Feeding America, which is the national organization of food banks, with $10 we can provide up to 40 meals.”
