Georgia Utilities May Resume Service Shut Offs for Missed Payments

Georgia Power

On Tuesday June 2nd during an administrative session, the Georgia Public Service Commission voted to delay their decision on shutting off services for customers who fail to make payments. In a meeting conducted and livestreamed to Youtube that morning, the members of the commission unanimously supported this extension to their original planned vote.
Commissioner Tricia Pridemore proposed the extension citing the need for PSC staff, “to plan for implementation.” Pridemore added that this extension, “would give them some time to work out the technical details within the customer service sheet.”

The original plan set June 15th as the date that Georgia Power would begin service cut offs and July 1st as the date that Atlanta Gas Light would begin shutting down their services. It should be noted that this extension only delayed the descision on whether or not power would begin being shut off, not the date of shut off.

The extension places the vote on June 9th, a day that does not currently include an administrative session, as the sessions are planned biweekly.
