Fireworks And Pets Don’t Mix: Athens Shelter Seeks Fourth Of July Fosters

visitathensga.com

Athens-Clarke County Animal Services is asking people to foster pets from its adoption center over the July 4 weekend.

The center is near Athens-Ben Epps Airport, where Athens-Clarke County’s annual Independence Day fireworks display will be staged this year.

The fireworks are scheduled to go off Friday, July 3 at about 9:30 p.m.

Fireworks are traumatic for many animals, including pets, so the Animal Services department is making an extra push to get animals into foster homes that weekend.

The event is especially worrisome for the adoption center’s dogs; most of the shelter’s kennels are outdoors.

Foster pickups will be scheduled on Thursday and Friday, with returns set for Sunday and Monday. Animal Services will be closed, Saturday, July 4.

Fostered animals are current on rabies vaccine and spayed or neutered if they are old enough.

For more information contact volunteer coordinator Selah Gardiner at selah.gardiner@acc.gov.com or 706-613-3540.
