Educators Oppose New CCSD Reopening Requirement

After mandating that all classes will take place virtually until the foreseeable future, the Clarke County School District is now requiring educators to teach out of their school buildings. The news is not being received warmly by many educators.

Over 100 educators have signed a letter opposing the district’s new requirement for educators to teach digitally five days a week on school premises. According to the letter, teachers unable to work out of their buildings would need a doctor’s note showing pre-existing conditions or a Federal FFCRA extension that provides paid leave for parents whose child’s school is closed.

The district informed teachers that the decision was made to allow them to deliver synchronous instruction on Zoom on a fixed schedule.  The educators proposed that they should only come into the building twice a week as long students are not physically in schools.

This is the second letter penned by educators opposing the district's policies, the first pertaining to the August 3rd start date. The letter was a factor in the district’s decision to delay the date until after Labor Day.
