Federally Indicted Atlanta Councilman Says He Won't Resign

Atlanta City Council

An Atlanta councilman indicted on multiple federal fraud charges says he won't step down from his council seat. City Councilman Antonio Brown was indicted Wednesday on charges of wire fraud, mail fraud, bank fraud and making false statements on a bank loan application. The 35-year-old told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Thursday that he planned to fight the charges and didn't intend to resign. The U.S. attorney’s office alleges that before Brown was elected, he took out loans and made credit card purchases, then falsely claimed he was the victim of identity theft and wasn't responsible for the charges or repaying the loans.
