Republican US Senate candidate Doug Collins picked up an endorsement yesterday from a high-ranking state leader.

Georgia House Speaker David Ralston formally endorsed republican Doug Collins yesterday, calling the four-term congressman, "a good man and a great leader." Collins is challenging incumbent Senator Kelly Loeffler, who was appointed to the Senate by Governor Brian Kemp. Kemp received criticism for favoring Loeffler from members of the republican party, including Ralston. Additional Republican supporters for Collins include Representative Karen Handel and Representativze Drew Ferguson. A spokesperson for Loeffler tried to downplay the endorsement, calling Ralston a, "career politician and criminal defense lawyer who abused his power to protect violent criminals, domestic abusers and child molesters."

Polls predict a tight race between Collins, Loeffler, and democrats Matt Lieberman and Reverend Raphael Warnock for the November Special election. A January runoff will be held if no candidate receives the majority vote.
