GA Supreme Court Rules in Favor of District Attorney Election

Miranda Daniel

Western Circuit District Attorney Candidate Deborah Gonzalez won a unanimous decision at the Georgia Supreme Court regarding a 2018 law allowing Gov. Brian Kemp to delay an election to fill the district attorney’s seat.

“Today we received, from the Georgia Supreme Court, a unanimous decision where they say it is unconstitutional, that the law is in violation of the Georgia Constitution.”

Gonzalez explains what this means for Georgia voters.

"As of right now, our election is safe. Prior to this decision today, there was always the chance that the Georgia Supreme Court could have gone the other way and could have basically nullified all of the votes that were already been done by people.”

Gonzalez was joined by four other plaintiffs from Clarke and Oconee counties in that lawsuit.
