ACC Mayor & Commission Discuss Auditing Two Departmnts

University of Georgia Grady Newsource

During an Agenda Setting Session last night, the Mayor and Commission discussed auditing for the Athens Clarke County Police Department and the Board of Elections.

The Mayor and Commission discussed the establishment of audit work plans for the Police Department and the Board of Elections, two departments who have been scrutinized in the public eye in recent months.

District Three Commissioner Melissa Link:

"We decided to move forward with asking the auditor to do an audit of the police department to examine justice and community building and public safety issues."

The audit scope includes analyzing the structure of the Police Department as well as identifying missions, staffing, budgets, and outcomes.

For the Board of Elections, the Audit Committee agreed to postpone audit fieldwork until after the November election, but they will be observing the election process until then. The scope for the Board of Elections includes the examination of the Election Office's communication, effectiveness, and responsibilities.

The Mayor and Commission is scheduled to vote on the approval of these audits on November 3rd.

The auditing process is a regular analysis conducted by the Operational Analysis Office to improve government performance and operations in a variety of ACC departments.
