Power Outages in the Wake of Tropical Storm Zeta

NOAA via AP

Tropical Storm Zeta resulted in the deaths of at least three people and left 2.5 million customers without power in Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi after high winds and gusts knocked trees and limbs onto power lines.

Georgia Power reported more than 550,000 customers lost power in the wake of Zeta traveling through the state. Jackson EMC reported more than 50,000 outages at the height of the storm, with linemen restoring nearly 30,000 since 4:30 this morning. Jackson EMC received support from crews from Flint Energies and Ocmulgee EMC.

In Clarke and surrounding counties, there were several reports of downed trees and power lines, debris in roads and traffic light outages.

Storms also delayed or cancelled early voting in 16 counties across the state, including Oconee County. Clarke County schools were closed as a result of the storm and students were not required to complete any coursework Thursday.
