Clarke County Sheriff Warns of Phone Scam

Clarke County Sheriff Ira Edwards is warning Athenians about a new phone scam circulating in Athens.
The Sheriff’s Office says that someone is calling Athens residents claiming to be a Captain Bobby Toole with the warrant division, and that the recipient of the call has a bench warrant out for failure to answer a grand jury summons.

The scammer then goes on to demand money to pay a non-existent fine.

The Sheriff’s office says the caller sounds believable, and can be aggressive, intimidating, and threatening.

If you receive a call from this scammer, the Sheriff’s office urges you to call the Athens Clarke County Police Department at 706-613-3330.
