UGA Athletic Director to Retire, Josh Brooks Named Interim

Athletic Director U

After 10 years, The University of Georgia Athletic director Greg McGarity will be retiring at the end of this month.

Yesterday the University of Georgia announced Josh Brooks will be serving as interim Athletic Director.
Speaking to reporters earlier this morning over Zoom, Brooks explained his philosophy for the position.

“I don’t think this is a time for change, I think what the strength of our department is, is the continuity. And now is definitely not the time to be looking at what we can change.”

Brooks had been serving as Senior Deputy Athletic Director at UGA, and is expected to be among the candidates for the position full time.

Speaking again to reporters on the possibility of him being hired for the position moving forward, Brooks explained.

“If this is an audition then so be it, but I come to work the same way every day.”

This announcement comes two days after former Athletic Director Greg McGarity announced his retirement. McGarity has been Athletic Director for the University of Georgia since 2010, and originally brought Brooks over to the Athletics department.

In the past Brooks has also served as Director of Athletics at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi.
