Georgia Power Receives First Nuclear Fuel Shipment for Vogtle Unit 3

Georgia Power

Georgia Power has received its first nuclear fuel shipment for Vogtle Unit 3. According to a release from the company, the shipment marks a major step for the Vogtle 3 and 4 nuclear expansion project.

In order to receive nuclear fuel, construction of specific areas had to be completed and inspected, including: the fuel vault, and spent fuel pool.
Once operating, the two new units at Plant Vogtle will be able to power more than 500,000 homes and businesses.
Unit 3 construction is now approximately 96% complete. The project has faced significant delays and cost overruns.
