Public Service Commission Holds Candidate Town Hall

The Climate Reality Project Twitter

Area residents and those around the state were invited to attend a Public Service Commission Town Hall this evening. The event was organized by the local chapter of Climate Reality. The “Turning Georgia into a Just Energy Power House” features candidates Daniel Blackman and Lauren “Bubba” McDonald.

Nancy Sagar is with The Climate Reality Project-Atlanta Chapter Leadership.

“In this six years, the decisions and the actions that this group takes affects all of us in Georgia. The environmental community is particularly concerned with our energy mix. How much of our energy is coming from fossil fuels like coal and natural gas, versus clean, renewable energy which we would define as solar and wind, not nuclear.”

The PSC sets electricity and broadband communications rates. Commissioners serve six-year terms.

“We need to care for those who are affected by a transition from fossil fuels to clean energy. We also need to work with communities to ensure that those who are disproportionately paying higher bills are not the ones left behind, that they’re not the last ones to get access to cheaper, cleaner energy.”

The meeting was this evening from 6 to 7 pm, via Facebook.
