Deborah Gonzalez was sworn in at 2 pm this afternoon on the courthouse steps. She was elected as Athens and Oconee’s new District Attorney after a runoff between herself and opponent James Chafin earlier this month.
“Our message of fairness, accountability, compassion, and empathy resonated with thousands of voters in Athens and Oconee. I am honored and humbled to serve as your next DA. And I am so proud to be the first woman and first minority DA in this circuit, the first Latina DA in the state of Georgia, and the first female Puerto Rican DA in the entire country.”
