Athens Mural Alley Project: Opportunity to Showcase Local Talent

Artist Taylor Shaw

A new creative initiative, the Athens Mural Alley Project, will give artists an opportunity to beautify downtown Athens, Jessica Wurst reports.

The Athens Mural Alley Project is the product of a collaboration effort from the Athens Area Art Council, Athens Cultural Affairs Commission, Athens Downtown Development Authority, and Lyndon House Arts Center.

The Athens Mural Alley Project is designed to "provide recovery assistance to local artists and create an Art Environment that brings attention to the Athens creative economy," according to a press release from the ACC Leisure Services Department.

This year's theme is Here and Now 2021. Up to six artists will receive a $750 stipend, which will be used to paint on panels that will be exhibited in a downtown alleyway. The deadline to apply for the project is February 15th.
