Commission Meeting on Controversial Condominium Project

The Mayor and Commission will have a regular session tomorrow at 6PM.

During the meeting, the commission is set to vote on several zoning-related items including the controversial Mitchell Street Condominium Project. Initially proposed in 2017 as a senior housing project, the developer is now planning to use this space for student housing.

Blake Aude from Flagpole comments:

"Now, the developer of the original project has made a deal to flip it to a student housing developer if they can get another rezoning to build these student apartments."

By a narrow vote, the planning commission recommended that the commissioners deny this proposal.

Also on the agenda tomorrow is a vote to waive fees for sidewalk cafes in 2021, which will likely be approved.

The meeting can be viewed live on the Athens Clarke County Government's YouTube channel starting at 6PM.
