Bill Introduced to Overturn GA Election Laws

Mark Harper via Savannah Morning News

Republican state senators introduced a set of 8 bills on Monday that would amount to an overhaul of Georgia’s election laws.

The bills propose bans on automatic voter registration, ballot drop boxes, no-excuse absentee ballots, and would keep nonprofits from mailing absentee ballot applications to voters.

The proposals come after record turnouts in the state delivered wins to Georgia’s newly elected Democratic Senators, as well as President Joe Biden. Many Republicans, including some elected officials, have continued to falsely claim that there was widespread voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

The bills are likely to be considered for the first time in the coming days by subcommittees of the Senate Ethics Committee.
