AthHalf Race is Returning This Year

There’s some good news for fans of the AthHalf Half Marathon this year, after canceling due to the pandemic in 2020, AthFest Educates Executive Director Jill Helme says the race is on this year.

"We've been keeping track of everything that's been happening with COVID-19 as well as what the city is working on in terms of their policies for special events. At this point, we're pretty confident that we'll be able to move forward with the 2021 AthHalf Half Marathon and 5K as an in-person race, so we're very excited about it. "

Helme says registration is now open., both for AthHalf and the 5K. Early bird discounts are available.

"As an indicator of how much I know people are looking forward to this, we announced that registration was open and within probably five minutes we had ten registrations. The earlier you register, the more you save. Registration right now is $60 if you register before May 31st."

AthHalf is the largest fundraiser for the nonprofit AthFest Educates.

"The revenue that we make from the race is a big part of what makes it possible for us to do the mission of the organization which is to support music and arts education in Athens for K-12 students. To date, we have awarded just over $454,000 in grants. This upcoming September should get us over the half a million mark in grant making."
