Governor Kemp Eliminating Gas Tax Through Saturday

11alive.com

Governor Kemp issued this change though an executive order, and it took effect at about 10 pm last night. The order will last until Saturday at midnight, and will fully eliminate the 28.7 cent tax on each gallon of gas.

This is Governor Kemp at a press conference earlier this morning.

“We are hopeful that this issue is short-lived, and I am happy to provide some relief to Georgians who are gonna see higher prices this week, but it won’t be because of paying taxes on that fuel or gasoline.”

This order came in response to the shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline network, an Atlanta-based fuel company that was hit by a cyberattack last Friday. Colonial provides gas for roughly 45 percent of the East Coast, serving about 50 million customers.
