Athens-Clarke County Commissioners meet again today as they continue their review of Mayor Kelly Girtz’s proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

As part of the process leading up to adoption of a budget on June 1, Commissioners will hear tonight from officials within the criminal justice system – District Attorney Deborah Gonzalez, along with judges from the State and Juvenile Courts.

In the proposed budget, the DA’s office would receive a modest budget cut of under 1% to a budget that amounts to just over $2 million in county funds. The Juvenile Court would get a 2.5 percent increase to fund, among other things, an increase in hours for one of the part-time judges. And, in the State Court, funding would remain basically the same in the proposed budget.

This evening’s meeting starts at 5:30, and will be streamed live on the county’s YouTube page.
