ACCPD Investigating Armed Robbery and Sexual Assault

Two women were robbed at gunpoint, and one sexually assaulted, early Wednesday morning.

According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, shortly after 2 am, the women were approached by a suspect with a firearm in the area of Foundry Street and Strong Street. The suspect stole several items from the victims before forcing one woman to a secluded area at gunpoint and sexually assaulting her.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Michael Poole at Michael.poole@accgov.com, or 762-400-7073.

Tips can also be reported by using the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 706-705-4775.

The University of Georgia Police Department is assisting the ACCPD in the investigation.

Anyone who has been affected by sexual assault can receive support by contacting The Cottage at (877) 363-1912.

The ACCPD recommends the following safety tips: When possible, use rideshares to travel to and from your destination(s). If using rideshares is not feasible, travel in groups, utilizing highly populated and well-lit areas.

If you observe suspicious activity, always call 9-1-1.
