The Athens Varsity officially closed its doors on Sunday, and already a developer has presented a project concept to the Athens-Clarke County Planning Department.
The Athens Banner-Herald reported that Fuqua Development presented a first draft that includes a grocery store, retail spaces, residential units, a parking deck and townhouses.
The concept was designed by Athens-based W&A Engineering and plans to build on 6.2 acres of land — larger than the piece of land that now contains The Varsity.
W&A Engineering is expected to incorporate feedback from the Planning Department into their next draft. WUGA's Jeanne Davis reports.
