Athens, North Georgia, Under Flash Flood Watch

The remnants of Tropical Storm are expected to dump up to five inches of rain around parts of the state, including north Georgia, resulting in a Flash Flood Watch.

Much of Georgia, including Athens and North Georgia could see two to five inches of rain by Wednesday morning, with isolated heavier amounts thanks to Fred, now a Tropical Depression, putting the area at risk of flash floods.

The National Weather Service says that as Fred moves through the region, additional bands of rainfall may cause storms, exacerbating the issue. Clarke, Barrow, Jackson, Madison, Oconee and Oglethorpe counties are included in that Flash Flood Watch.

Forecasters say many locations have already received anywhere from two to four inches of rainfall. A total of two to three inches of additional rain is expected across North Georgia, with isolated heavier amounts. Heavy rainfall on top of saturated soils will lead to flash flooding.
