The fate of embattled County Auditor Stephanie Maddox will rest in the hands of Athens-Clarke Commissioners tonight.

The Mayor and Commission meet tonight at 7pm in a last-minute special called session. According to the meeting’s tentative agenda, lawmakers will go into a closed discussion about Maddox’s work, then, in a public meeting, will consider her continued employment.

This is the latest chapter in a three-year-long saga around Maddox, who alleged that she experienced discrimination and harassment at the hands of Mayor Kelly Girtz and County Manager Blaine Williams, after she filed an open records request about county salaries.

Earlier this summer, the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing by county officials in regards to Maddox’s allegations. The results of a second investigation into Maddox's allegations are expected soon.

The public portion of tonight's meeting will be streamed live on the county's YouTube page.
