Athens-Clarke County police say a 31 year old man died in a double shooting that also left a woman seriously injured. The victim has been identified as John West Townley, one time NASCAR driver and son of Tony Townley, who is the co-founder of Watkinsville-based Zaxby's restaurant chain.
The shooting happened in the 200 block of Morton Ave in the Five Points neighborhood just before 9:00 PM Saturday. Both Townley and a 30-year-old woman were transported to a hospital where Townley died of his injuries.
Police say there is a suspect in the case, a 32-year-old man from Dunwoody who was known to the victim, but as of Sunday evening no charges had been filed. An ACCPD spokesman says the investigation is ongoing and according to preliminary information, the shooting appears to be related to domestic violence.
