The mayor and commission meet at 6 p.m. this evening for a special called session.
The commission will vote on whether to allocate $150,000 from the General Fund to cover deficits from the Sheriff’s Office, which has accrued overtime expenditures related to personnel vacancies within the fiscal year, as well as expenses from covering inmates’ medical treatments.
The commission will also vote on whether to issue a revised Request for Proposals to select an agency partner to administer an eviction prevention program that will coordinate with the Magistrate Court, landlords and tenants to provide rental assistance to households in need. A previous Request for Proposals issued in September drew only one applicant, which staff recommended rejecting due to the agency’s lack of organizational experience, among other issues.
Also on the agenda, the commission will vote on whether to request the assistance of the Athens-Clarke County Board of Elections and Registration in drawing new commission district boundaries to submit to the Georgia General Assembly.
The commission will also vote on whether to allocate funds for stormwater infrastructure improvement and fire department equipment.
Following the special called session, the commission will hold their regular agenda setting meeting where the commission could advance proposals for the civilian police oversight committee and the human relations commission for final approval early next month.
