Black slams Walker on domestic violence record

State Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black, who is running for the US Senate seat currently held by Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock, had harsh words yesterday for former UGA football star Herschel Walker, who is also running for the Republican nomination for Senate.

Speaking to reporters at a domestic violence shelter in Marietta, Black said that he believes Walker’s history of violence against women is, “disqualifying.” Black also said that if Walker wins the Republican nomination for US Senate, the GOP could lose the votes of women.

During Walker’s divorce in 2001, Walker’s ex-wife alleged “physically abusive and threatening behavior,” from the former football standout. Four years later, Walker’s ex-wife sought a protective order, alleging that Walker had repeatedly threatened her life and the life of her boyfriend. That order was granted by a Texas judge, and for a time, Walker was denied the right to own a gun.

Walker’s campaign dismissed Black’s attack as a sign of desperation. Earlier this week, Walker was endorsed by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Former President Donald Trump endorsed Walker earlier this year.
