Gang initiative leads to arrests in ACC

  An initiative targeting criminal street gang activity has led to the arrests of six people. A release from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department states four guns were recovered and property from several recent burglaries was seized. 

Those arrested are Kendrick Jackson, 18 of Athens, GA; Markeith Martin, 19, of Athens, GA; Xavier Mitchell, 20, of Athens, GA; Alijah Nelson, 18, of Athens, GA; Trayvon Shields, 20, of Athens, GA; and Davion Mitchell, 19, of Athens, GA. 

Charges include Prowling and Carrying a Weapon with a License, Burglary, Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Crime and Violation of Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, among others.  

 The ACCPD’s Gang Unit, FBI Safe Streets Gang Task Force and the Northeast Georgia Regional Drug Task Force were involved in the arrests. 

Update: On Friday, December 10 ACCPD officers arrested a known gang member, Siderious Heard, 20 for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. At the time of his arrest, Heard was out on bond for felony fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving and driving with no valid insurance.
