COVID update: UGA and CCSD continue trending high

COVID cases at the University of Georgia dropped below 1,000 last week, for a total of 919 positive cases reported from Jan. 17-23. Students represented the majority of those positive cases.

According to the latest data recorded through DawgCheck, most positive tests were taken outside the university, rather than at the University Health Center or surveillance testing. However, since the start of January, surveillance testing on campus has administered over 1,500 test per week.

From Jan. 17-21, UGA administered 136 COVID vaccines.

The Clarke County School District saw an uptick last week with 375 new positive cases. As classes remain largely in-person, January continues to have the highest number of cases for the entire school year.

In Clarke County, the seven-day positive case rate for Jan. 18-24 was 1,151 positive cases per 100,000 people.
