Local COVID-19 case numbers fall

After a notable spike last month, local COVID-19 cases have dropped significantly with local schools and the Georgia Department of Public Health reporting their lowest case numbers so far this year.

The Clarke County School District reported 295 COVID-19 cases in the past 30 days, but that rate has dropped to just 45 cases in the last 14 days, according to the county’s COVID-19 Case Reporting Dashboard. With 3 days left in February, 177 total cases have been reported for this month compared to 1532 in January.

The University of Georgia’s University Health Center reported 47 positive cases for the week of February 14th. This continues a downward trend from last week’s report of 87 cases and 166 cases two weeks ago.

Overall cases across Georgia have decreased as well. The Georgia Department of Public Health reported over 193,000 cases in the two weeks leading up to January 24th with nearly 2,900 cases in Clarke County. In the past two weeks, the total number of Georgia’s cases is less than 22,000 with 205 of those cases reported in Clarke County.
