After 50 Years, Athens-based Artist Has Work Showcased

The Lyndon House Arts Center is featuring an exhibit by Athens Artist Gwendolyn Payton. Excerpts from Faith of a Dreamer: Artworks by Gwendolyn Payton was spurred by a 2020 exhibit at Mercer University, some 50 years after Payton was denied a showing and an art degree at the university due to racial discrimination. The exhibit runs through March 12th. Here’s part of a longer conversation with Payton, which can be heard on Athens News Matters.

Alexia Ridley joined WUGA as Television and Radio News Anchor and Reporter in 2013. When WUGA TV concluded operations, she became the primary Reporter for WUGA Radio. Alexia came to Athens from Macon where she served as the News Director and show host for WGXA TV. She's a career journalist and Savannah native hailing from the University of Michigan. However, Alexia considers herself an honorary UGA DAWG!
