In 1971, Gwendolyn Payton was a senior at Mercer University, majoring in biology and art. But the head of the art department refused to allow her to show her work, effectively denying her an art degree. 50 years later, Mercer righted a historic wrong, putting Payton’s works on exhibition and awarding her the art degree she sought. Now, Payton’s work is on display in Athens through March 12.
