ACCPD Investigating After Two Teens Injured in Shooting

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is investigating a Tuesday afternoon shooting. According to a release from the department, officers responded to a report of a shooting near East Carver Drive and Cone Drive at around 1:25 pm. They arrived to find a 17-year-old make with a gunshot wound to the leg. A short time later, a 16-year-old male drove onto the scene with a gunshot wound to his upper back. Both teens were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Officers determined that a disagreement over a denigrating social media post led to the shooting incident. Police say the teens were riding in a vehicle in the area and recognized the individual believed to be responsible for that social media post. A confrontation between them led to the gunfire and those involved quickly left the scene. Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and need the public’s assistance to identify all participants in the shooting. Anyone with information should contact Detective Paul Johnson at 762-400-7060 or Paul.Johnson@accgov.com.
